Hello my friends, did you missed us? Huh, I hope you did, we also missed you and of course we didn't forgot you, we just had a little bit longer vacation.
As we promissed last time, we will finish our post "Christmas time in Baden Württemberg" with the third and the last part: Christmas market from Esslingen am Neckar. We know that it can be a little bit late to present something that happend almost two montsh ago, but trust us, its really worth it.
So, this Christmas market was by far the most beautiful and interesting market we ever saw. This opinion can be confirmed and shared not only by us but also by hundereds 5 star reviews and the enormous number of visitor which are travelling each year expressly for having fun at Esslingens am Neckar market.
In the old city center - Altstadt of Esslingen am Neckar(about this town we have talked in our previous posts - Esslingen am Neckar) you will find each year two types of Christmas market. The first type is the usual one, a market you can find in almost all big cities(see Part 1 and Part 2). But the most important and interesting part is the second market, a market with an unusual and in the same time an original medieval theme – Mittelaltermarkt.
All organisators/participants are trying to keep up with the atmosphere and dress themselves in medieval costumes and renaissances outfits.
Right from the beginning you will be "teleported" in the early medieval time, and you'll be wondering why did you forgot your medieval clothes at home. With a little bit of imaginations you can get more closer to those who are celebrating by taking part to shows, hundreds of games and why not buying some authentic handcrafted arts.
As usual the kids are those who will have the most of the fun. Here they can enjoy jugglers, fairy tail characters, acrobats which are perfoming at dizzy heights and on the flaming wheels, craftsmen which can quickly manufacture a piece of nice toy and lots of other interesting attractions and adventures like: Bow and arrow, Mouse Roulette and so on.
The gourmands can enjoy really tasty medieval and special goodies. All specialities are being prepared using medieval methods. The bread is backed in wood ovens, the meat is roasted on an open fire, the hot sweet wine(Glühwine) is prepared using an old and secret recipe and the caramelized sweets are prepared in a pan on which the sugar is melted. If we missed something then you will definetelly find it on the next Christmas Party.
Of course there is no way for the merchants, craftsmen and artist to not expose their work. They will wait for you to by the authentical and unicated art work. If you think that it's too expensive to buy them, then you can try to handle the price - sometimes it's really works.
The same habits has been followed since years and it's available in all Christmas markets.
A really exotic and unique way of entertainment for adults is the medieval bath. A huge steaming hot barrel is waiting for those who wants and has the courage to make a traditional and medieval bath. In this way the fun is garanteed 100% - if only you are not to prude to do this.
The Esslingen's Christmas market has it's own, special and unique allure - no more words - just enjoy the pictures.
